How to Report a Scam
If an advertisement or contact seems fraudulent, act promptly and safely. This guide explains immediate steps, common warning signs, what to include in a report, and where to seek official help. You can report a suspicious listing without sharing sensitive credentials.

Five Steps After a Suspected Scam
If you believe you have encountered a scam, focus on stopping additional harm before trying to resolve the advertisement itself.
- ✓ 1. Stop communication and do not send more money, verification codes, or personal documents to the suspicious contact.
- ✓ 2. If you made a payment, promptly contact your bank, card issuer, or payment provider through its official website or phone number. Ask what fraud-reporting or recovery options are available.
- ✓ 3. If you shared a password or login code, secure the affected account: change the password from a trusted device, sign out unknown sessions, and enable multi-factor authentication where available.
- ✓ 4. Preserve useful evidence: the advertisement URL, contact identifiers, dates, transaction references, and relevant messages. Avoid collecting or redistributing illegal imagery.
- ✓ 5. Report the affected advertisement to Massage Republic and, where relevant, to your payment provider or official cybercrime authority. A website report does not replace a police or financial-fraud complaint.
Common Warning Signs of a Scam
- ✓ Pressure to pay immediately, send an advance deposit, or transfer money to an unverified account.
- ✓ Requests for passwords, one-time passwords (OTPs), banking PINs, card security codes, or account-access links.
- ✓ Claims that an extra fee, refundable deposit, or verification payment is required to release previously sent money.
- ✓ A contact person who avoids reasonable questions, repeatedly changes payment details, or makes contradictory claims.
- ✓ Links to suspicious websites, imitation payment pages, or unexpected files and applications.
- ✓ Photos, contact numbers, locations, and descriptions that appear inconsistent across multiple ads.
- ✓ Threats, harassment, impersonation, or pressure not to contact the bank or authorities.
What to Include in a Useful Scam Report
A clear, factual report helps moderators find the correct advertisement and understand the concern. Use the Report an Ad page for suspected misleading or fraudulent listings. For more serious threats, use the appropriate safety-reporting channel.
- ✓ The full advertisement URL from your browser, and any additional affected listing URLs.
- ✓ The city, country, or region associated with the advertisement.
- ✓ A short description of the issue, such as suspected advance-payment fraud, impersonation, or misleading contact details.
- ✓ A concise timeline of what occurred and the statements or actions you personally observed.
- ✓ The contact method involved (for example, a displayed phone number or messaging username), without publishing unnecessary personal data.
- ✓ Relevant payment method and non-sensitive transaction references if you have already paid; do not share full card or bank credentials.
- ✓ The action you are asking moderators to review and a working email address for follow-up.
Example of a Clear Scam Report
Subject: Suspected advance-payment scam
Affected page: [paste the full advertisement URL]
Location: [city, country]
Incident: On [date], the contact listed on the advertisement asked for an advance payment and then requested an additional charge. I have not independently verified the identity of the advertiser.
Evidence available: Relevant messages, contact information and a payment reference, if applicable.
Requested action: Please review the advertisement and any related account activity.
Reply email: [your email address]
If You Have Already Sent Money
- ✓ Contact your bank or payment provider immediately through an official channel. Tell them you suspect fraud and ask whether a dispute, freeze, recall, or chargeback is possible.
- ✓ Save transaction dates, amounts, payment references, and the identity shown on the payment screen when relevant.
- ✓ Report the incident to the relevant cybercrime authority. In India, the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal is https://cybercrime.gov.in/ and the financial cyber-fraud helpline is 1930.
- ✓ Do not send additional payments to someone claiming they can recover your money for an upfront fee.
- ✓ A report to Massage Republic concerns website content and moderation; it does not itself reverse an external payment.
If You Shared a Password or Personal Information
- ✓ Change compromised passwords promptly, especially if the same password was reused on other websites.
- ✓ Enable multi-factor authentication and review recent account sessions, devices, and recovery settings.
- ✓ If you disclosed payment information, contact the issuing bank or payment provider and follow its security instructions.
- ✓ If you disclosed identity information, monitor for misuse and seek local identity-theft guidance as appropriate.
- ✓ Do not send identity documents, account passwords, banking credentials, or OTPs through the Massage Republic reporting form.
Private Image Threats, Blackmail, and Exploitation
If someone threatens to share intimate or private images, do not send additional money or images in response to the threat. Preserve the relevant contact details and URLs without forwarding or reposting the images. Use the Remove My Photo process for unauthorized images displayed on this website, and report threats or exploitation to the appropriate authority. For suspected underage or illegal imagery, provide its location rather than downloading or distributing it. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
How to Report a Suspicious Advertisement
- ✓ Open the Report an Ad page at /report-an-ad/ and enter the full affected advertisement URL.
- ✓ Explain why you suspect misleading information, fraud, impersonation, or another policy violation.
- ✓ Include only necessary facts and non-sensitive references. Clearly distinguish what you observed from what you suspect.
- ✓ Provide a working email for clarification or follow-up.
- ✓ Submitting a report does not automatically establish wrongdoing or guarantee that a listing will be removed.
- ✓ For an unauthorized photograph of you, use /remove-my-photo/; for general support, use /contact-us.
Reporting Before Any Financial Loss
You do not have to lose money before reporting a suspicious advertisement. If you notice deceptive claims, repeated suspicious ads, impersonation, or unusual payment pressure, submit the relevant page URL and explain the warning signs. Reports should be made in good faith. Do not use reporting tools to harass an advertiser or submit knowingly false allegations.
Share Evidence Responsibly
- ✓ Send the affected listing URL and a clear description rather than reposting images or confidential communications publicly.
- ✓ Do not share passwords, OTPs, full bank account numbers, full payment-card details, or government identity documents in an initial report.
- ✓ Keep supporting evidence secure and provide only what is necessary if an authorized investigator or payment provider requests it.
- ✓ Do not download, forward, or re-upload suspected illegal content to support a report.
Avoid Recovery Scams and Further Contact
Fraudsters may contact victims again while claiming to be investigators, recovery agents, customer support representatives, or payment processors. Be cautious of anyone guaranteeing recovery, demanding an upfront fee, or requesting remote access to your device. Verify official contacts independently rather than relying on numbers or links sent by the suspicious party.
What Happens After You Report
A confirmation means your report was submitted or received; it does not prove that wrongdoing occurred. Moderators may inspect the identified content, request clarification, restrict or remove a listing, or decide that the available information does not support the requested action. Review times vary, and no fixed outcome or deadline is guaranteed. If you follow up, refer to the original report and its advertisement URL rather than sending repeated duplicate reports.
